Languedoc-Roussillon is a region in the south of France that borders Spain and is packed with possibilities for your next holiday. Whether you’re travelling with kids or just the two of you there’s plenty to see, do and experience; from a museum dedicated to sweets and a mini farm for youngsters, to the wine producing capital of the region. Here are 6 reasons to visit Languedoc-Roussillon.

1. It’s easy to fly into Languedoc-Roussillon

There are 6 different airports you can use in Languedoc-Roussillon:Béziers, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Gerona, Montpellier and Nimes. Each of these are serviced by low cost airlines, with flights running from a range of UK airports throughout summer. La Brasilia is just 17 km from Perpignan airport, meaning you can be on the beach by lunchtime!

2. A museum… of sweets!

Surely the best activity for kids in Languedoc-Roussillon has to be the Haribo museum, or Le Musée du Bonbon. Take a sweet journey through the history of Haribo; starting at its roots as a liquorice factory in 1862, through to it’s merge and transformation into the brand we know today. Tour the ingredients and machine rooms to see exactly how your favourite treat is made, and stop at the publicity room to enjoy adverts from through the years. Of course there’s a shop, plus bouncy castles and go karts too – perfect outlets for a sugar rush!

3. Brilliant Béziers

Set high on a hill above the River Orb, Béziers is the capital of the Languedoc wine industry. It holds several weekly markets where you can pick up local wine and beautiful flowers, or simply wander the old streets to admire the town’s Roman and Gothic architecture. Stay at Les Mas des Lavandes or Aloha Village and you’ll be less than 20 km from Béziers.

4. Mini farm for mini farmers

La Mini-Ferme Zoo is a wonderful day out for tots where they can meet and feed all sorts of friendly animals, including horses, cows, donkeys, goats and sheep. Despite the mini name, this 4-acre farm has over 250 animals and there’s the chance to be guided round the enclosures to learn the names and history of the cute creature living there! Les Sablons is a 40-minute drive from the farm and is a Mini Paradise Parc, meaning it’s packed with free facilities for baby and toddler families.

5. World Heritage Site made of water

[responsive-image id=’4774′ align=’center’ caption=” alt=’Canal du Midi’]

Canal du Midi is an epic waterway stretching 240 km through the heart of Languedoc, from Toulouse all the way to Agde. It’s one of Europe’s longest and widest canal systems, designated a World Heritage Site in 1994. It’s ideal for a lazy holiday day strolling, cycling or bobbing along on a boat trip – L’Air Marin even offers free canoes and rowing boats to use along the Canal du Midi.

6. Day trip to Spain

The beauty of staying in Languedoc-Roussillon is the ease in which you can reach Spain for the day. Girona, northern Catalonia’s largest city, is just over an hour’s drive from Perpignan and will reward visitors with cobbled lanes, medieval walls and stunning gastronomical delights! Criques de Porteils is one of our closest parcs to Girona and has its own private vineyard.

It is a very beautiful region with so much possibilities! One of my favorite places is a small village St Guilhem-le-Désert and of course the old city in Carcassonne! A must see!
